2 Step Florals and Die Cut Butterflies Cards

Blossoms Abound and
Elegant Greetings stamp sets, Stampin' Up!
glitter glue
purple ribbon
yellow/white striped decorative paper
Barely Banana, Whisper White, Lavender card stocks
assorted classic inks, Stampin' Up!
butterfly die, Stampin' Up!
sponge

DD Peony and
Well Scripted stamp sets, Stampin' Up!

I used a scoring board and stylus to make the dry embossed backgrounds
on the cards above and below.
I created a template from scrap paper first to sponge in the blue
ink and then stamped the flowers - before dry embossing !
I held it to a light source and lightly marked on the backside
the outlines of the sponged areas so I would know
where to stop the dry embossing lines.
Butterfly dies are from Stampin' Up!
as are the inks and card stocks.

Well Scripted stamp sets, Stampin' Up!

All three cards were sent to
Operation Write Home
and are submitted as part of
at their website.
I've actually made numerous birthday cards
to send in the Operation Write Home;
see previous posts throughout January
for many more cards.

Signs of Spring ?

I took a peek at the flower beds today after this for the most part mild winter we've had again this year.  The past couple of days have been in the 60s again , only to see temps fall back to freezing after a line of severe weather rolls through this evening.

I Miss You Cards

All images are from retired Stampin' up! stamp sets and water colored with
an aquapainter and ink from ink pads.

A long lost image I found
(I didn't know it was lost, I thought I had already used it).
I made a set of Down On The Farm cards
to donate to Operation Write Home
two years ago, thinking I had used up all of the images.
Well, here is one that was left behind so I put it to good use,
making this new card to send in this year to
Operation Write Home.
Cuttlebug embossing folder,
Snap Stamps for the saying,
circle punches covered with clear dimensional
"glue" to create faux brads,

My Memories Suite Tutorial - Attach Text To Shape

There is a new tutorial video My Memories shared - how to attach text to a shape ! What a cool new feature in the version 4 softwareof My Memories Suite ! Choose any shape, even your custom made shapes, type text in a text box and attach the two together. What a super easy way to fill a shape, even odd shapes such as the Christmas Tree I created, with text !!!!!

I made this super quick page and a couple of screen shots as a tutorial to show you briefly how it is done, but if you'd like to see their instructional video, click here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE9QauYxwAI

Finished simple page with text filling my custom made
Christmas Tree shape.
The papers used are found in the
Cookies With Grandma designer kit by
lddiva at the
My Memories Design Shop.
I created the simple layout with photo boxes
that a dark brown (color picked) mat was added to.
Just a quickie page I threw together to
show you how easy it is to Attach Text To A Shape
(and create your own custom shapes!).

The above and below screenshots show how to make a custom shape (I made a Christmas Tree out of a basic triangle) within the My Memories Suite V4 software. I wrote a couple of posts about how to do it and shared them earlier this month. You can see them here:
http://craftysahmiam.blogspot.com/2013/01/custom-shapes-my-memories-suite-pt-2.html

Basically you open up the Shapes, choose one then click on the "Edit Shapes" button on the lower left of tet Shapes window that pops open. Another window will pop up (the one shown above) that will give you several options to change your shape. I could NOT figure out how to get the buttons to work, then wah-lah!, I clicked on the shape and noticed that one side turned blue and when I clicked on a button, things started to happen. I can see how this little feature in the program can make some simple - and complex!- new shapes out of the existing basic shapes. Have fun playing around with it !

This screen shot also shows some of the other custom shapes I've made so far.
They are automatically saved in the Users Shapes folder,
but you could easily move them elsewhere or
create a new folder.

How to text fill  a shape (attach text to a shape)

  1.  Insert a Shape. Paper Fill or Color Fill, add a Drop Shadow and Mat if you’d like.
  2.  Insert a Text Box. Type your text then change the Font and Color if you’d like.
  3.  Highlight both the Text Box and the Shape (while holding the Shift key, left click on each with a Windows PC; little gray squares should show up around each letting you know they are highlighted/active) then right click. A window will pop up with several options.
  4.  Click "Attach To Shape" and the program will arrange the text inside of your shape ! You may need to make a few adjustments to make it look better, possibly resizing text or your shape. It's easy to do.
  5. Right click on the text filled shape to detach from shape if you need to separate them. The same window will pop up, but this time you will click "Detach from Shape".
  6. A fairly simple, "Wow, how did you do that?" digital technique !

If you don't already own My Memories Suite V4 scrapbooking (and so much more!) software, you can buy it at mymemories.com. Remember to use my affiliate code STMMMS23251 (simply copy and paste) to get $10 off of your purchase and a coupon code for $10 worth of digital content from the store ! You'll also receive a coupon code for a free 6x6 photobook (you only pay the shipping and handling) ! You can choose a digital download (just over 4GB in size) or for a small fee, have the disc sent to your home. The store has thousands and thousands of different styles and types of digital download content with more being added all the time plus there are sales literally every day.

Toy Box Cards

All images are from the retired Toy Box stamp set from Stampin' Up! and water colored using ink pads with an aquapainter.

I'm pleased with this idea:
I had an old scrap of super bright neon green card stock
that had been run through a Cuttlebug Alligator
embossing folder. It had been sitting along with lots of
other neglected bits and pieces for some time.
I had an idea
why not paint over it with green acrylic paints ?
I am happy with the way it turned out
and used it as a mat for this too cute
dinosaur toy image I water colored.

the decorative paper strip cut in the middle with a
sentiment stamped in between as an idea I
saw somewhere and kept it in the back of my mind
to use some time. It would have
worked so much better had I used a
piece of paper with clouds on it !

Buttons and Bows Cards

All stamp images used are from the retired Stampin' Up!
stamp set Buttons and Bows.
They were water colored with ink pads and
an aquapainter.
More of the 163 cards I made
and sent in to Operation Write Home.

Background stamp that I added water color
details to for the background paper.
The Positively Pink and Whisper White squares
used on this card as well as the one below
are leftovers that were cut from a class long ago.
These too cute images fit perfectly in them !

White craft ink a background stamp on vellum paper
to make the background paper.
Glitter glue on the jewels of the crown.

Going To The Post Office

Here are all of the cards I was able to complete to send in to Operation Write Home, many of which I've been posting here. Not nearly as many I as I sent in the past (over 350 at one time!), but I wanted to be a part of the Race You To The Mailbox Chard Drive. There were 163 cards made by myself as well 22 "Any Hero" cards my cousin donated from children at the school she works at, 5 pounds of cards !

While I'm there, I am going to stock up on a couple of sheets of stamps before the postage rates go up. Too bad the Muscle Cars stamps aren't released just yet, I'd have to buy several sheets of those ! That is, if our little post office carries them.

Hello Cards

Crayon Kids and Crayon Alphabet
I made a couple of these
