Paper Doily Mini Basket

Inspired by two challenges I recently came across and the fact that I needed to make
a few little fun treat holders for Easter, I came up with these wee baskets.

They started as  6 1/2"wide paper doilies I've had in my stash for far too long.
I made a scrap paper pattern first to see if I could make it work.

I "guesstimated" where to make the horizontal folds,
approximately in thirds for this size of doily. I then measured in 1 1/2"
from each end and trimmed the sides with scissors.
Happy with the way the scrap piece turned out,
I made one from a doily.
Note: you may want to pay attention to the scallops on your doily
to center them to your liking on each end.

The ends of the long sides are bent around then glued behind the short sides.
I didn't make crisp fold lines on them as I did on the bottom.

The handle is made from a strip of paper cut to the width and length
that I thought looked fine. I attached 7/8"wide satin ribbon to the top with
double sided tape. The ends are adhered inside the basket with double sided tape.

It looked sort of plain, unfinished, where the ribbon handle was visible
through the sides of the doily basket, so I hot glued on ribbon knots.

A rubber stamped egg image that I selectively colored with markers
to leave a portion off in order to have room to stamp "Happy Easter"
was stamped, trimmed and glued on top of the ribbon knot on one side.
The rubber stamp images are oldies from Stampin' Up!,
dated the year 2000 for the Easter Egg set and I'm not certain
of the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set age as there is no date on it.
I'm guessing abut 10 years old.

They are cute little baskets that I will add a bit of filling and
candy to, but not too much because they are quite flimsy.
They aren't very big anyway, so one marshmallow peep
with a few jelly beans will fill it nicely :)

  Thanks for looking !

Friendship Card

Here is a sweet little (4 1/4"square) card I made recently.

The pink frame is a scrap that was leftover when I
die cut the shape for another project.
It worked well as a frame for the sentiment on this card.
It is attached with dimensionals/pop dots.

The white background of the card was run through
a letterpress plate then overstamped with another
letterpress plate that I inked to use as a stamp.
Both plates were bought from Stampin' Up! years ago.

The sentiment, stamped in black Memento ink,
is so old, but will never go out of style ;)
 It is dated 1994 !
It is part of an old stamp named Sayings and Such,
also by Stampin' Up!

Blushing Bride ink and card stock,

Rhinestones and a paper punched heart
coated with crystal accents to finish it off.

Because I used such an old stamp
and the letterpress plates on my card,
I am entering it into the following two challenges
that I recently came across :

I could easily participate in the retro challenge again as all of my stamps
are well over a year old . I wonder if there is a challenge for stamps
that are a decade or more older ? Ha !

Layered Unicorn Wall Decor

The March Anything Goes crafting challenge
at the
is now live !

This month the theme is to add some layers.

Our generous sponsors for this challenge are

I used the
image from A Day For Daisies for my piece.

I printed the digital image at regular size
onto white card stock.
It fits nicely into a 6 x 6 frame.

The eye was colored with a marker
and the background was water colored.

The horn has Stickles diamond glitter glue on it
and the ribbons were colored with a silver metallic marker.

I then printed the image two more times
onto a shimmery white paper,
trimming out the mane portion of each.

The mane is attached with dimensionals and glue
to create dimension.

I made my own very tiny flowers.
The pink "roses" are made from pre-made
five petal paper flowers that I trimmed, scrunched
and glued into place to replicate a rose.
I used a darker color for the base,
lighter for the top layer.

The tiny yellow flowers were made with paper punches
and have rhinestone accents.

I hand cut teeny little leaves from green card stock

and added detail with a green marker.

All pieces were carefully glued together with a
clear drying liquid tacky glue.
I squeezed a small puddle of the glue onto scrap paper
then used a toothpick to dab very small amounts
of the glue onto each piece.

These flowers are no larger than the end of a pencil,
very small and tricky at times to create !

(instructions for the hand stamped clock can be found on this blog post:  https://craftysahmiam.blogspot.com/2016/09/stamped-clock.html )

I was going to chalk / distress paint my frame ,
but decided in the end to keep it black,
thinking the image would pop more

Mardi Gras Memory Frame

Today I'm sharing my project for the
March Anything Goes Challenge.
Please read our simple rules first;
you have all month to play along.

This is a memory frame I built myself from an old
Larson Juhl moulding kit I have had in my stash.
It is 15"square.

It was easy to assemble,
using wood glue and the included clips.
Everything was precut, nice and clean edges
with mitered corners that matched up well.

I had glass cut at a local hardware store
because it is cheaper than the glass from a frame shop.
It doesn't have the UV protection that the museum quality glass
from a frame shop has,
but I don't care since it isn't something I will keep up forever.

I added spacers to give it enough depth for the beads
we caught at a parade to fit.

Dabs of hot glue were used to attach the beads to a piece of mat board.

Photos and paper memorabilia are attached with double stick tape.

The entire piece is mounted into the solid wood  frame with a
point gun I was given for my birthday.

I really enjoyed working on this piece and am excited to
put the other two frame moulding kits I have to use soon!

Thanks for looking =)
